Forming Found Poems

For forming found poems, picking words on a page to come together can be done literally or digitally. I prefer to create my found poems, or "poemtry" as I call them, on the computer, because there is no messy glue, no microscopic chopping up tiny words and tediously arranging them in a somewhat coherent manner. All you have to do is arrange the words in your own head and type them in. The beauty of this way of finding words is there are many different words that might come out at you, just from a small paragraph or page. Once you have the right words, a phrase or sentence might float around in your head until you settle in on the arrangement. The words wait to be found or not, and there are no glue splatters or sticky paper scraps to clean up.
I am hoping to soon start back up in my little studio with creating some newfound poems. Even if no one else likes them, I find pleasure in looking for the words and creating something new that never existed before. It's exhilarating to find just the right words.
I do love the idea of the old fashioned way of gathering found poems. I admire those who take this process and make it into an art form. When I grow up, I'd like to be just like them!
